Seeing Palo Verde National Park via a trip on the Tempisque River

The Tempisque River.  The muddy places on the bank are where the crocodiles like to lay.

Sitting on the river boat.

A 16 foot croc

My "friend" here was only about 6 feet from my side of the boat.  Suddenly he moved into the water--and suddenly I moved to the middle of the boat!

Can you see all the bats on the tree?  Howler monkeys in the trees made noises that sounded like tiger growls as our boat went by.

We saw tons of herons, cranes and egrets.  It was beautiful sight to watch a flock of snowy egrets take flight as the boat came near to them.

This guy was "holding court" on a dead tree that came out over the river.  He's about 6 feet long.

After the river trip we had a typical Costa Rican lunch at a ranch house nearby.
